OzSuperb™ Oregano

OzSuperb™ Oregano - A true culinary flavour

OzSuperb™ Origanum spp. 'OREG02'PBR

  • Stronger, classic Oregano
  • Highly ornamental form, blue-green foliage
  • Cleaner foliage in winter and summer
  • Cutting grown for consistent, strong flavour

Common Name: Oregano

Description: This herb has a stronger, traditional Greek flavour. Unlike some strong Oregano that have a medicinal taste, Ozsuperb™ has a true culinary flavour that will be consistent throughout your cooking. A ground cover plant, the blue-green foliage looks great most of the year and stays cleaner than other forms in hot and cold weather. It creates a superb colour contrast in any garden, goes to flower later than seed grown forms, and is a great ornamental that you can cook with!

Cooking Uses: Ozsuperb™ Oregano is recommended for cooked dishes due to its strong flavour. Once cooked it is healthy and full flavoured with flavours previously only available from mature, wild grown Mediterranean herbs. Great in pasta, on meats, potatoes, stews, pizza and more. Use 1/3 the suggested amount of this herb in traditional recipes, or use the full recommended amount to make it the hero of the dish.

Size: Approx. 20-30cm H x 30-40cm W

Planting, Growth and Tolerances: Fast growing, compact and dense, this plant is great as a ground cover, border, or mass plantings and well suited to pots, baskets and green walls. Ozsuperb™Oregano goes to seed later, meaning a longer harvest. A hardy perennial with good drought, heat and frost tolerance, it grows in a wide range of conditions. Plant 30cm apart year round in full sun to light shade (best in spring/summer to early autumn). It prefers well drained soil. Avoid wet feet.

Care: Water as required, allowing soil to dry out between watering. Avoid over watering, particularly in winter. In spring and autumn if required, use a slow release fertiliser and/or incorporate compost into the soil. If heavily harvested, apply a light application of quick release as required (usually only for pots). Harvest as required, will produce a bushy compact plant if done frequently. If required, prune by up to 1/3 in spring and early autumn for a tidy plant.
